Hudsonian Godwit at Southshore Spit Reported by Ian Southey

This afternoon I clearly saw a Hudsonian Godwit on the Southshore Spit of the Avon-Heathcote 3 or 4 times in flight but did not manage to find it on the ground. Did not see any obvious wing moult so I am wondering if it was a first year bird.

Tui sighting Mt Pleasant Reported by Suzanne Fenwick

Early last Sunday morning, we heard a lovely “bell” birdsong close by but were unable to locate where/what it was coming from. However, approximately an hour later, I looked out my kitchen window and there was a tui singing again on the top of a neighbour’s macrocarpa tree. Lovely to see and hear.

Avon-Heathcote Estuary Reported by Peter Langlands

Hi all -Chestnut teal seen on Avon-Heathcote Estuary out from Humphries Drive at 3pm feeding amongst grey teal and shovelers- the white flank patches show up well. Great to see and my first after 30 years birding in South Island. Celebrating with a glass of SE Australian Shiraz seems appropriate.

Got some new pix-
